The heater is finally in place
and tested !

The Dickinson-heater is now ready for the South. Moust of the mounting was done when we were at Itaparica, Brasil. Now the rest is in place and ready. In Buenos Aires you can get all the parts you want for a reasonable price - as long as you don't tell anyone that it is for a boat... Ceramic heat-resistant insulation behind the inox-plate, stainless freefall tank for diesel and protection arond the flue-pipe on deck. These last and important pieces was mounted when we were in Puerto Madero, Buenos Aires. The heater is tested, and it gives A GOOD HEAT. We are looking forward to the colder oceans...!!!
In Buenos Aires we finally found some heat resistant insulation that we could use. Finally the last flue-parts had arrived from Dickinson to Norway. It came to us with Heidi's parents... After the Captains specicfications a tank was made in Buenos Aires, and mounted in port cockpit-locker.
Protection around the chimney on deck was also made in Buenos Aires and mounted. Diesel was poured in to the free fall tank... Thursday 26. October - the heater is ignited for the first time.
The heater was of course easily ignited... It was time to open the Champagne - and the temperature was rising in Empire !!!
DICKINSON HEATER - July 2006

We ordered the Dickinson heater from Canada while we where in Trinidad. So far the heater and its parts have been put away. During the last weeks the Captain has used most of his time to make space for, and to mount the oven. At the moment it is winter in Brazil, but the temperature is between 25 and 30 degrees Celsius. We look forward to get further south. Even though the summer is coming, the temperature will get lower during the comming months. We hope that the Dickinson heater will keep both us and Empire warm.

The saloon before the Dickinson project. We had to do some small adjustments of the sofa. The steelplate fits and there is a new pice of floor where the sofa used to be.
